Privacy policy

Effective 30 September 2026

In short: recall doesn't collect, send, sell or share any data about you or your writing. There's no account, no analytics, no advertising, no tracking and no crash reporting. Your notes, and everything recall works out from them, stay on your Mac and in the folder you chose.

Your notes

Your notes are Markdown files in the library folder you choose during setup. recall reads and writes them there, and nowhere else. If that folder is in iCloud Drive, as it is by default, Apple syncs it between your devices under Apple's privacy policy. The developer of recall never receives your notes.

What recall computes, and where

To find echoes, search by meaning and group patterns, recall runs a small language model on your Mac. The results (the search index, calibration numbers, and the names you give themes) are stored in ~/Library/Application Support/recall on your Mac. None of it leaves your Mac.

The one network request

During setup, recall downloads its language model once from Hugging Face, where the model is published. Like any download, this request shows Hugging Face your IP address and basic request details; see their privacy policy. Nothing about you or your writing is sent. After this, recall makes no network requests. Links you click, like findahelpline.com on the Patterns page, open in your web browser.

Purchases

recall is bought through the Mac App Store. Apple handles payment, and the developer doesn't receive your payment details.

Capture from your iPhone

The optional capture shortcut runs in Apple's Shortcuts app and saves into your iCloud Drive. It doesn't involve the developer of recall or any other service.

Children

recall isn't directed at children under 13, and it collects no data from anyone.

Your control

Everything is yours to keep or remove. Delete notes from your library folder; delete ~/Library/Application Support/recall to remove all of recall's own data; remove the app from Applications to uninstall it.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with its date. recall will never start collecting data without saying so first.
